Part of being a professional is utilizing opportunities for continual learning and education. Imaging USA is the annual conference of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) that takes place every January.

Thousands of photographers meet together for 3-6 days of conference and pre-conference classes taught by top industry professionals. This year’s schedule covered topics from color grading and toning in post processing, to dramatic portraiture lighting, to SEO, branding, printing science, and more.

Imaging USA also includes a display of the prior year’s top images from International Print Competition (IPC), Team USA’s images from the World Photographic Cup, and the opportunity to sit down with international judges for an image critique in preparation for the coming year’s IPC. There is also a black tie evening for the ceremonies awarding PPA degrees (Master of Photography, Photographic Craftsman, Master Artist), IPC awards, and the Grand Imaging Awards.

In reality, though, some of the best experiences of the conference is the networking and professional friendships and support systems that are developed through a week of learning, practice, and education. Dinners, spontaneous photo shoots, hands-on training from generous mentors, and discussing photography technique well into the early morning hours - these are all hallmarks of time at Imaging USA.
